Shamrock Shake

I remember that my favorite shake of all time was that green shake at McDonalds. The Shamrock Shake is McDonald's limited time shake during St. Patrick's day. It is a minty green shake that is delicious. I would always go to McDonald's during St. Patrick's day to get the shake. I don't know if the taste or the color was what made the shake so good, but I kept on getting it over anything else. The green color for some reason makes this appetizing, even though green is usually a turn off like like in vegetables. The shake was first made in 1970, and since then a lot of other seasonal drinks have come out at different shops. Not only did seasonal drinks come out after this, this was the first seasonal item, and led to many other companies copying this idea. ex: Starbucks has many seasonal coffees. In the 80's McDonald's used a character named Uncle O'Grimacey to advertise the shake, but that character has been canceled. In 2008 the item finally was reintroduced to Canada, after it had been discontinued 5 years previous.

  1. Are they still available in the US? What other seasonal drinks have they tried out? Any way to measure how successful these types of promotions have been?

Is McD's still using any of the characters (other than Ronald) in their ads?

  2. That sounds amazing. And why is it that characters have been canceled? I thought that more characters would help in advertising...
